Pokémon - Fire Red Extended
3.5.6 [Bug-Fix]By @djtarma
Fire Red Extended reworks Kanto, featuring Pokémon from Gen I to IX and modern gameplay systems.
About this hack
Pokémon – Fire Red Extended is a bold rework of the Kanto region designed to modernize the Pokémon FireRed experience while remaining accessible to newcomers. The project makes all Pokémon from Generations I to IX available for capture, including regional and gender forms, and is especially recommended for players experiencing the Pokémon series or rom hacks for the first time.
The hack introduces extensive graphical and quality-of-life improvements, such as darkened fonts for better readability, redesigned HP bars with dark themes, updated tilesets, expanded battle backgrounds, visible IVs in the summary screen, and color-coded nature indicators. All Pokémon sprites have been updated to give the game a more modern visual identity.
From a mechanical standpoint, Fire Red Extended reworks evolution methods to remove trade dependencies and introduces multiple new evolution conditions, including gender-based evolutions, party-based requirements, stat comparisons, and move-based triggers. While modern battle gimmicks such as Mega Evolution, Dynamax, and Gigantamax are intentionally excluded, the project focuses on balance and progression adjustments to ensure a smooth gameplay curve.
The world itself has been heavily expanded: cities and routes feature redesigned layouts, new connections, and a large number of additional maps. Field moves go far beyond the original HMs, incorporating abilities such as Rock Climb, Headbutt, Bulldoze, Drill Run, Growth, Smart Strike, Giga Drain, Dive, and others, all integrated directly into exploration. To reduce reliance on HM-specialist Pokémon, the Smart Watch item allows players to interact with all field mechanics in a streamlined way.
Several exclusive systems further distinguish the project. Dynamic Machines (DMs) allow players to teach sets of moves and alter Pokémon natures through PokéMarts. A robust Fossil System enables fossil hunting across multiple regions using Dig and Thief, while Wormholes grant access to Ultra Beasts and Legendary Pokémon through space exploration tied to Porygon-Z. The Safari Game has been completely revamped, offering expanded maps, no step limits, and increased Safari Balls.
The traditional Elite Four is replaced by a challenging Pokémon League, featuring one specialist Trainer for every Pokémon type. Additional mechanics such as spawn lists and newly introduced abilities—including type-conversion abilities and VIP effects—further expand strategic depth throughout the adventure. Sevii Islands content is currently in development as of versions 3.5.7–3.5.9.
